A traditional ascent route to the upper Ellero Valley from the hamlet of Prea (perched on the mountainside and celebrated every year for its incredible Living Nativity Scene), passing through Rastello (an ancient gateway to the Salt Road) and climbing up the narrow valley corridor to the Mondovì Mountain Hut, nestled in a lush green basin with, behind it, the unmistakable silhouette of Cima delle Saline.
Alongside the typical karst landscape found in the upper valley, the diverse forest cover near the so-called Ponte Murato is particularly noteworthy, featuring beautiful beech and chestnut forests.
Although the route climbs steadily, it follows a path that is almost always paved or, when unpaved, in excellent condition.
