Alto Tanaro

Mountains that scratch the sky suspended between Italy and France, paths that look out to the sea, flowers and plants that smell of the Mediterranean, ancient forests that tell of shepherds and traders.

The upper Tanaro Valley not only guards the headwaters of the main right-hand tributary of the Po, but also retains a discreet and wild charm that becomes tangible above 1,300 meters above sea level. From the Bosco delle Navette to the architectural jewels of Carnino Inferiore, Carnino Superiore and Upega; from the karst plateaus that envelop the Marguareis and Mongioie massifs (crossed by the splendid Via del Sale), to the silent breath of the Galero and Armetta Mountains that tickle the nearby Ligurian coast, in the direction of which rise the villages of Alto and Caprauna.
